The Fourth World Equestrian Games Officially Begin In Jerez De Frontera

The 2002 World Equestrian Games, the fourth ever held, officially began on Tuesday with a spectacular opening ceremony that included a special message from HRH La Infanta Dona Pilar, the President of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and HRH King Juan Carlos I of Spain, who declared the Games open. Over fifty nations are expected to compete in the WEG, which hosts World Championships in seven disciplines of equestrian sport.

Gestion Silvano Fails Jog - Out of WEG

A blow for the Dutch Dressage Team on Tuesday morning when team horse Gestion Silvano N ridden in competition by Ellen Bontje failed to pass the Vet Inspection. The 17 year old Holsteiner breed stallion was held in the holding box on the first inspection and failed on the second presentation to the ground jury. Under the dressage rules there will be no reinspection.

Dressage Team Grand Prix First Competition at Games

The first teams medal competition at the World Equestrian Games starts Wednesday at 10.00 when the first horse steps into the Chapin 1 stadium for the Grand Prix dressage.

The hotly contested race to ride at the Budweiser World Cup 2003 in Las Vegas is heating up for U.S. Show Jumping riders. In the East Coast standings, Norman Dello Joio of Wellington, FL leads the way, and on the West Coast, Misti Cassar of Hidden Valley, CA, and Richard Spooner of Glendale, CA, are tied for the top spot.

FEI Endurance Committee

The FEI Endurance Committee held a special meeting on 29 October in London (GBR) primarily to discuss the problems that arose during and following the World Equestrian Games Endurance Event. They were joined at the meeting by Prof. Leo Jeffcott Chairman of the FEI Veterinary Committee and the FEI Secretary General Dr Bo Helander.
