Salzgeber Loses Advantage with Grand Prix Speciale
German favourite Ulla Salzgeber lost her advantage further to the windy conditions brought on by the Meltemi. After several mistakes from her 16-year-old gelding Rusty, mainly in the flying changes, the German rider has now a slight advantage on 76.524 % finishing her Grand Prix Special on a score of 74.84%.

Athens, 1:30pm EEST- - - It was Dutch rider Anky van Grunsven’s day today in the dressage arena at the Markopoulo Equestrian Centre. She earned the top score of 77.800 for a very correct Grand Prix Special performance with the 10-year-old Salinero. The leader going into today, Germany’s Ulla Salzgeber, ran into some trouble, which began in the warmup ring where the gusting wind continually blew down the letters around the ring. And then in their performance, Rusty had a slight spook in one corner and some uncharacteristic errors in the transitions. However her score of 74.840 keeps her at the top of the scoreboard. Diary from Athens - It Was Beginning to Look Like a German Medal Sweep
I was just about to write about an impending sweep of equestrian medals by the Germans when I received an e-mail about the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s ruling to overturn the Appeal Committee’s decision made in the eventing debacle Wednesday. Now Germany has to give up the Team Gold it was awarded and Bettina Hoy has to surrender the Individual Gold.
Canadian Dressage Team Places Ninth at Athens Olympics
The Canadian Dressage Team placed ninth overall at the conclusion of the Team competition at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. This is up one place from their current world rankings.
Cindy Ishoy and Proton Top Canadians in Athens
Cindy Ishoy of Jerseyville, Ontario finished as the best Canadian in team dressage competition at the Olympics today. On her ten year old gelding Proton, Ishoy rode a nearly mistake-free test with highlights in the piaffe and extended walk to receive a score of 66.583%, which tied her individually in 31st place with Russia’s Elena Sidneva.

Dressage Team Gold for Germany
Germany came from an unaccustomed second-place to win its 11th gold medal in Team Dressage. Spain was in the lead before the fourth rider. It was left to Ulla SALZGEBER, with 17-year-old RUSTY, to secure the win for Germany with a score of 78.208 per cent. Spain won its first Olympic medal with a team score of 72.917, pushing the United States back to bronze.

Athens, 1:30pm EEST- - - Cindy Ishoy and Proton were the top Canadian finishers in the Individual Grand Prix Dressage Qualifier. They earned a score of 66.583, putting them in to 31st place overall. Belinda Trussell and Royan II received a score of 66.000, one point behind what she had hoped for, but nevertheless said she was not disappointed. The Canadian Team finished in 9th place, up one spot from their world ranking. The Team Gold was awarded to Germany while Spain won its first Olympic medal ever by taking the Silver. Bronze went to the United States. With an amazing performance and a score to match, 78.208, Ulla Salzgeber and Rusty appear to be on track for an Individual Gold. Dressage competition continues Monday with the Grand Prix Special for the top 25 individuals.
Canada's Belinda Trussell Rides to a 66.00% - Grand Prix Day 2
Canada's Belinda Trussell rode to a 66.00% in her Olympic debut aboard Royan II. Anky van Grunsven (NED) & Salinero have taken the lead with 74.208%. The challengers, Germany's Ulla Salzgeber & Rusty, are still to come. Debbie McDonald and Brentina have put in a super test for the USA team effort and scored 73.375%. Robert Dover & FBW Kennedy rode to 71.625%. This is a great boost to the American team medal effort. Germany's Martin Schaudt gets 73.417% to help retain Germany's lead. As results come in, Spain is pulling up great marks with 2 marks over 71%.
