It is with sincere regret that Equine Canada reports that Akaash Maharaj has announced his decision to stand down from his post as our Chief Executive Officer. Akaash accepted the position of CEO in 2008, stating that he would remain in the role for one quadrennial cycle.


Belgian-American Group to Provide Footing for London Olympic Competition Arena

A Belgian-American group is being brought in to provide London Olympic equestrian arena footing of a mix of sand, felt and fiber identical to competition arenas around the world including Florida’s mammoth Palm Beach complex and the 2008 Beijing Games. Bart Poels of Belgium and Brett Raflowitz of Equestrian Services International of Palm City, Florida–partners in arena ventures around the world–have joined with the British company, Andrews Bowen Ltd., that was originally awarded the contract to provide the Olympic riding surface.

The Queen marked the start of her Diamond Jubilee year with a New Year's ride in the grounds of Sandringham House. The 85-year-old monarch wrapped up warmly against the elements in blue riding jacket and cream jodhpurs as she exercised her horse at the Norfolk estate...but conspicuously missing was a helmet.

Todd in final four for NZ Sportsman of the Year

Equestrian legend Mark Todd is among the final four contenders for New Zealand Sportsman of the Year. Todd, 55, was nominated after his win in the three-day Badminton Horse Trials in April aboard Land Vision, where be beat a lineup of the world's best eventers. It was Todd's fourth win in the event.


2012 Date and Location Approved for Adequan/FEI North American Junior & Young Rider Championships

The dates and location of the 2012 Adequan/FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships presented by Gotham North have been designated. The competition will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park from July 18-22, 2012 - the week before the Olympic Games commence in London.
