Ian Millar's Promise Me Passes Inspection

90 horses were presented to the Ground Jury for Jumping today at Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre including Ian Millar's mount Promise Me. Two horses will be presented at the re-inspection tomorrow. One is DJANE DES FONTENIS for Grzegortz KUBIAK (POL), sent to the holding box today. The other horse is CARNUTE ridden by Thomas VELIN (DEN). The Dane will arrive at Athens airport later this evening. He received a late entry and replaces the Colombian rider Carlos LOPEZ, who decided not to compete in the Athens Games.

Olympic Showjumping Begins Sunday

At Markopoulo there is the finest Equestrian Venue in Olympic history, and it is there, beginning on Sunday 22 August, at 9 am, that 77 riders from 27 countries will pitch into the showjumping preliminaries. Among them are Greek champions Petris, Mytilinaiou, Tsatsou, and Athanasiadi. Canada is represented by 'Captain Canada' Ian Millar & Promise Me.

Successful Opening Day for Ontario Show Jumping Team at NARYC

The Ontario Show Jumping Team enjoyed a successful opening day of competition at the ‘Maui Jim’ North American Young Riders’ Championships. In the first individual qualifier, a speed phase where competitors incur time penalties for every obstacle knocked down, Kelley Small of Kanata, ON, guided Calibur to a clear round to place sixth overall.

Ian Millar

Ian Millar is the most successful competitor in the history of Canadian show jumping.  First named to the Equestrian Team in 1971, he has gone on to represent Canada proudly on numerous occasions.  With over 90 Nations’ Cup appearances, Millar has ridden in more team competitions than any other Canadian rider.  He is an eight-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion and holds the North American record for grand prix and derby wins with 145.  Millar was also the first rider to successfully defend the World Cup title, winning in 1988 and 1989 aboard the legendary Big Ben on both occasions.

Jump Canada announced Ian Millar as the Olympic candidate, Eric Lamaze as the first reserve, and Jill Henselwood as second reserve for the individual Canadian show jumping spot at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Norman Dello Joio Wins $75,000 Zada Enterprises Wellington Masters Cup

At the Winter Equestrian Festival today, just 1/100th of a second separated place 1 and 2 in the $75,000 Zada Enterprises LLC Masters Cup. There were 36 horses started in the class. In the 6 horse jump-off, there were 4 clean rounds and they all were going for the money, racing the long gallop to the last jump.

Beezie Madden and Authentic Win 1.5 Meter Classic

The Winter Equestrian Festival was warm and humid in the high 80’s but by afternoon the wind was quite strong and jumps were blowing down. Although without the wind, the heat would have been difficult to bear for horses and humans.

Eric Lamaze and Mill Creek Rosalinde Close Second in $20,000 Classic

Canada’s Eric Lamaze and Mill Creek Rosalinde placed second in the $20,000 Classic in Wellington, Florida, the same competition they won two weeks earlier during the prestigious Winter Equestrian Festival circuit.
