2003 DC Sanctioned Dressage Officials/Stewards Clinic

This clinic is open to anyone interested in becoming a dressage steward and to all current equine canada stewards.

All current Equine Canada Stewards in good standing may officiate at Equine Canada Sanctioned Dressage competitions until December of 2004. Starting January 1st, 2005, Stewards who wish to officiate at Dressage Competitions must be licensed Dressage Stewards. In order for a Steward to become an officially licensed Dressage Steward they must attend and successfully complete one of these dressage specific clinics.

Note: Participants who attend and successfully complete this clinic will officially be recognized as licensed Dressage Stewards. Learner Stewards will be certified to assist, while Basic, Medium and Senior Stewards will be certified to officiate at all Equine Canada Sanctioned Dressage Competitions.


In 1969, Elisabeth H. Williams moved from her native Sweden to Washington, DC, to work at the Swedish Embassy a position she held until 1979. From there she moved to the World Bank (IBRD), where she stayed until 1989, before moving to Pennsylvania. Elisabeth was extensively involved with the US Pony Clubs, managed part of their National Championships for many years, Chaired their Dressage Committee and was co-DC for the Potomac Pony Club for a short time. She was very involved with her local dressage association; competed her own horse at the lower levels, and was involved in the management of many large dressage competitions. Elisabeth has been a USA Equestrian Technical Delegate since 1981, and an FEI Chief Steward for Dressage since 1994 (she is now the Assistant Steward General for Dressage in the US). She has officiated at many prestigious competitions, among them the World Cup Finals, Los Angeles 1995, the Olympics in Atlanta 1996, the North American Senior Championships, Maryland 1997, the Pan-American Games, Winnipeg 1998, as well as most CDIs in the United States. Elisabeth is currently a Director of USA Equestrian and chairs its Ad Hoc CDI Committee and serves on the USA Eq. Dressage Committee. She has been the moderator for many USA Equestrian and USDF Technical Delegates Forums.


Christine Hickman is one of Canada’s most successful and active Stewards. She is a top FEI Dressage Steward and has officiated at several CDIs across North America. She was also one of the official Stewards at the FEI Dressage Championships of the Americas held in Blainville, Quebec in July 2002.
